Taura Lamb Sings About Heartache and Jaw Ache

Her single ‘New Normal’ features different kinds of pain.

Two months ago, we recommended Taura Lamb as the queen of nostalgic 90s/00s R&B. Her newest single, ‘New Normal,’ will not disappoint the fans of this style. Following ‘Post Your Body,’ once again, her effortless vocal and upbeat rhythm are wrapped in a personal and vulnerable track.

Taura wrote ‘New Normal’ when she was experiencing different kinds of pain. Not only was she dealing with a break-up but also, she was suffering from extremely swollen joints, precluding her from speaking and singing.

‘I found myself in an extremely low place where I’d laid on the floor and cried so many times that it felt like my new normal. I wrote the lyrics long before the music which is something I’d never done before and have never really done since,’ she shares in an exposing confession.

She also reflects upon the musical and lyrical contrast of the song. ‘The lyrics talked of heartbreak, pain, and bad timing, but the music is telling you to dance it off and power on through.’

And actually, the dance beat makes it easy to believe that crying on the floor has become her new normal because she sings about it in an effortless, unpretentious, and unapologetic way.

‘New Normal’ by Taura Lamb is out now.
