Switch Things Up With a Different Aesthetic
Feeling a new vibe but not sure direction to go in? We’ve got you sis.
When we think of aesthetics, the first thing that comes to mind are goths, prepsters, hipsters and the Y2K group. The truth is, that while these crowds still exist, there are so many more that have become an integral part of today’s culture. In this modern era, technology controls the world with Instagram and TikTok taking over our lives and influencing how we dress.
As a result of this, fashion has become a lot more fluid and we have all felt freer to express ourselves outside traditional social norms. I mean, life’s too short to pretend to be anyone else but ourselves anyway! Below are five newly emerged aesthetics so whether you just want to brush up on the latest or experiment with your own style, you’ll be well equipped.
1. Soft Girl
This aesthetic typically relies on pastel colors, pleats and white sneakers. Romance best describes this look, with florals and lilac cardigans. However, contrast can be created through matching these items with black chunky boots, or bold hair with edgy statement sunglasses. The overall vibe is soft, but this group shows people that there’s a little bit more of a kick than first thought.
2. Normcore
The ingredients that make up this aesthetic are high waisted jeans, white tees and black sweaters. Simple and classic summarizes this look, with no sway from the latest trends. Or in other words, a little bit basic. But remember, plain isn’t always boring!
3. Baddie
A baddie is that girl on your Instagram feed that you wish you could unfollow, but she just looks too damn good. A full face of makeup accompanied by designer accessories are signs for this aesthetic. Whether they’re rocking a tight dress or posing in a two-piece, the baddie always looks 10/10.
4. Art Hoe
An art hoe is someone who isn’t afraid to express themselves creatively. Originating on Tumblr with the Black and LGBTQ+ community, this aesthetic often leans on the color yellow to put together their look. While the word ‘hoe’ is often used as an offensive term, here it’s employed in a discretionary way, which disregards its spiteful origin. The overall look has a vintage style and channels the heart and soul of art and nature.
5. Light Academia
Last but by no means least, this aesthetic is one for the knitted vest lovers. Much similar to the original prepsters, light academia’s love everything school-like and high-priced. It’s for people who wear whites and beiges and match their Instagram feed to a similar color scheme. Dark Academia resembles the opposite to this through oversized brown blazers and navy pinstripe trousers.
These are only a few of the endless aesthetics today, so don’t forget that not everyone fits in to one style, they’re often mixed and matched. While the ‘00s was about fitting in to a group, this era celebrates diversity.
