A Love Letter To New York, From Carolina Herrera

The designer celebrates her 40th anniversary by attributing the collection to the buzz of New York.

From the Empire State building to Times Square, the 2021 fall collection shows New Yorkers all the places they took for granted pre-Covid. In the digitally released video, ‘Native New Yorker’ plays, while models enjoy life to the fullest in extravagant gowns and statement skirts.

Looking like a Christmas postcard, the short film reminds us all why we love New York, detailed through a recurring theme of hearts on buttons, belts and as prints. The creative director of the brand, Wes Gordon, reminds us that the heart motif is “a reminder to love. Love ourselves. Love each other. Love our city. And love getting dressed.”

In other areas of the print front is the signature giraffe pattern, accompanied by perfect folds of tulle that will make you miss getting glam. What better way to accurately depict the excitement of the clothing than the city that never sleeps?

Highlights include a red raincoat in a maximalist silhouette that would be a fabulously bold addition to anyone’s closet. Containing all the colors of the rainbow, the compelling collection is a celebration of brighter days to come.

Gordon speaks about his motivations for the garments, “It’s more than just a symbol, it’s a reminder of the importance of love, especially right now.” Covid19 has affected designers immensely, but the collection shows that not even this could diminish the vibrancy of Carolina Herrera and the fashion world.
