For copyright infringement.

The ongoing legal battle between fast fashion giants SHEIN and Temu has escalated, with SHEIN filing a new lawsuit accusing Temu of copyright infringement and fraud.

In a complaint filed in Washington, D.C., federal court, SHEIN alleges that Temu has stolen its designs and is operating under false pretenses. SHEIN claims that Temu is masquerading as a genuine online marketplace while secretly selling stolen designs from other brands, including SHEIN itself.

"Temu draws U.S. consumers into downloading and using its mobile application with promises of extremely low pricing," reads the complaint. "But Temu is not profiting from the sale of these products, which are priced so low that Temu must subsidize each sale, losing money on every transaction."

Temu has responded to SHEIN's allegations, firing back with accusations of their own. A Temu spokesperson stated that SHEIN's "audacity is unbelievable" and accused them of engaging in similar practices, including lifting designs from other brands and independent retailers.

The legal dispute between SHEIN and Temu dates back to 2023, one year after Temu was launched under PDD Holdings. As the battle continues, it remains to be seen how this legal drama will unfold.
