Seongmin Yoo's "Visions Of The Universe" At Corey Helford Gallery

A cosmic collision of organic and alien forms.

POSTED BY ZOE TYLER

Seongmin Yoo’s Visions of the Universe is set to take over Corey Helford Gallery, and trust us—you’ve never seen anything like it. A collision of the cosmic and the organic, her latest works feel like they’ve been unearthed from some alien excavation site, blurring the line between ancient artifacts and futuristic visions. These figures—part creature, part celestial beings—exist in dreamlike landscapes where gravity bends, time warps, and human presence is a mere afterthought.

With a background steeped in ink wash painting and a deep commitment to activism, Yoo crafts pieces that are as thought-provoking as they are otherworldly. From hauntingly beautiful alien flora to hybrid beings that merge amphibian, human, and mythological elements, her art feels like a glimpse into a parallel universe. Think Yves Tanguy meets Leonora Carrington, but with a distinctly sci-fi edge.

Her newest series takes this exploration even further, with life-sized sculptures and surreal paintings that hint at a world where humanity has evolved into something beyond recognition. Whether it's figures with planetary heads, floating tree-like structures, or alien forms stirring cosmic cauldrons, Yoo’s work is a portal into the unknown—a reminder that the future isn’t just something we imagine; it’s something we create.

Step into Visions of the Universe at Corey Helford Gallery from February 1 to March 8, 2025, and prepare to question everything you thought you knew about art, identity, and the cosmos.
