Corey Helford Gallery Presents "ALL MY FRIENDS KNOW DARKNESS"
HERA and Lauren YS unleash solo exhibitions exploring light and shadow.
Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) is currently showcasing two extraordinary solo exhibitions under the shared title ALL MY FRIENDS KNOW DARKNESS. Featuring the boundary-pushing works of HERA of Herakut and the vibrant creations of Lauren YS, this duo offers a kaleidoscopic journey through deeply personal and universal themes.
HERA, aka Jasmin Siddiqui, is back in full force. After making waves as one-half of the legendary German graffiti duo HERAKUT, she’s continuing to redefine street art with her solo work. Her evocative pieces fuse graffiti, illustration, poetry, and storytelling, crafting figures that seem to pulse with raw emotion and energy. Known for tackling heavy themes like trauma, childhood, and social awareness, HERA's work is simultaneously elegant and chaotic—a visual diary of the human condition.
On the flip side, Lauren YS (they/them) brings their dazzling, high-chroma worlds to the table. Based in Los Angeles, this queer Asian-American artist draws inspiration from mythology, dreams, and the fluidity of identity. Their work, which ranges from massive murals to intricate canvases, vibrates with otherworldly energy while grounding itself in deeply personal themes of selfhood, gender, and freedom.
Lauren describes their contributions to the show as "semi-autobiographical paintings" that explore sexuality, trauma, heritage, and agency, all through metaphor-rich imagery. Expect vivid portals into alternate realities where dreams and identity intertwine.
You can also check out the gallery’s other exhibitions, including Visions of the Universe by South Korea-born artist Seongmin Yoo and Costume Obscura by Canadian illustrator Ryan Heshka.
The exhibitions run through March 8, offering plenty of time to soak up these striking collections. For more info, head to CoreyHelfordGallery.com and follow them on all the socials. Ready to explore the darkness? We’ll see you there.
