Why Your Beach Day Look Needs a Sarong

When it comes to fun beach day looks, I’m always looking for ways to push myself. I’ve tried everything from shell necklaces and anklets to tortoiseshell sunglasses in an attempt to elevate a simple bikini, but the one piece I always come back to is my sarong.

I’m not much of a swimmer, so my bikinis are often more about the styling than the water. I buy them with accessories in mind, creating the perfect summer look. That was exactly my strategy when I bought my favorite pink bikini in 2023 — I found a matching sequin sarong and knew together they would create the ultimate Barbie Summer moment.

Fast forward to 2026, and that sarong is still my most-used beach accessory. It’s ridiculously versatile — what other piece can work as a cover-up, headscarf, or even a towel to sit on? Plus, they’re lightweight enough to throw into your bag without taking up valuable space.

I’ve even seen influencers using sarongs as makeshift bags, and this is definitely my next beach styling experiment. Imagine strolling along the shore with a sparkly sarong draped over your shoulder, ice cream in hand. Sounds like summer perfection to me.
