Sandy Liang Creates New Footwear Inspired By Isabella Boylston
Sandy Liang has officially entered the shoe market.
Ballet flats have already proven to be the “it” shoe to have for the fall, and Sandy Liang’s debut footwear only solidifies that. The New York based designer has officially entered the footwear market with her new shoe, Mary Jane Pointe. The shoe is an elevated interpretation of the ballet flat, and was inspired by ballet dancer Isabella Boylston.
“It all started when Isabella invited me to a show and gave me her shoes after,” states Liang in an Instagram post. “I never got to be a ballerina (cry face) but I’ve been obsessed with pointe shoes ever since I was little. I remember sketching them and gliding around the house in pink satin slippers from Macy’s pretending to go on tippy toe. It’s been 2 years of talking to different factories and endless hours of fittings and calls — but here we are!!”
The shoe is elegantly constructed, made out of satin—and one out of leather— with an ankle strap and coming in the colors of black, dark umber gray and blush pink. The flats also had their runway debut with Sandy Liang’s Spring/Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
Sandy Liang isn’t the first label to push ballet flats to the forefront. The beloved footwear has had appearances with namesake brands such as Chanel, Tory Burch, Maison Margiela, and most popularly, Miu Miu.
