REBL. Celebrates Third Anniversary With Limited Edition Sportswear Drop

“Changing lives and empowering women in Muslim communities through football.”

POSTED BY TENAI PALOMINO

Ghanaian sustainable brand REBL. returns to fashion’s forefront with a limited-edition capsule to celebrate its third anniversary. The drop centers on a women’s football shirt, detailed with a black and grey patterned colorway representing the inherently independent nature of the nonconformist. Also sporting REBL.’s logo alongside three stripes and three stars, representing the label’s third year in the game,  REBL. dedicates a portion of the proceeds of the drop to developing women’s football in Muslim communities across Accra, Ghana.

Muslim communities are ingrained in Ghana’s football history, birthing Abedi Ayew ‘Pele,’ triple time African player of the year and widely regarded as Ghana’s greatest football player, Ibrahim Synday, African Footballer of the Year 1971 and first ever African player to appear in the German Bundesliga, and Karim Abdul Razak, African Footballer of the Year 1977. Touching on the lack of infrastructure and funding women’s football in Africa receives, founder of the label Kuuku Husni Sagoe states, “Football is virtually seen as a men’s game and girls are being prevented from participating, while those who do face discrimination. But when it comes to football, there is no distinction in the support given to men and women.”

REBL. continues to push for further recognition and advocacy of Ghana’s Islamic female football players, creating a pathway for young girls in Ghana to nourish their endeavors. “We can only imagine the number of talents that could emerge from these communities and at the same time creating a safe space for these girls, preventing them from crime and deviant behaviors, and providing them a future.”
