Rah-Rah Skirts Are Back: The Eighties Revival Taking Over Summer Fashion
How the iconic cheerleader skirt is making a stylish comeback.
If you don’t know by now that rah-rah skirts are IN - where have you been? Noticed by Vogue during the SS24 runway season, the eighties skirt style has had a strong resurgence. Miu Miu, Loewe, and Molly Goddard were among the brands that added a boho frill to their collections.
Following bubble-hem skirts and ballet flats, rah-rah skirts are another example of the eighty’s resurgence that is clear in the key summer trends for this year.
Created by Angela Stone and Gifi Fields, the style was first used by cheerleaders in the 1980s and quickly became known as the first skirt to revive the 1960s mini.
It lost popularity in the 90s when the classic mini skirt came back into style but had a resurgence in 2008.
And now it's back with a bang.
Plenty of high-street stores have rah-rah skirts to offer. Go bold with a leopard print skirt from Urban Outfitters or lean towards boho-chic with a white frilly version from Pull & Bear.
The key to this trend is to let the skirt do the talking. Pair one with a basic tank top, sunglasses, sandals, or ballet flats for an effortless summer look.
