Peaches’ New Single “Pussy Mask” Reflects On The Pandemic
As well as a reflection on the state of the world, AOC and RBG get shout outs on the new track.
In a follow up to her 2020 single “Flip This”, Peaches is back with a unique take on the past year and reflections on the current state of the world. The guitar-heavy track uses Peaches’ signature style of tackling subjects head on and mixed with comedy.
Peaches’ intentional comedic approach features lyrics that state “My pussy wear a mask,” with the artist going on to explain “My music has always married the absurd with serious topics like social inequality or championing gender equality and age equality. I hope the humor can shine some light into this dark, confusing and frustrating reality, so we can let off some stress.” Sounds perfect for what we are all facing right now.
The accompanying music video features an animated cartoon vagina bouncing around with a medical mask while taking on the Senate – as Peaches stated this tackles subjects head on and with some laughs. Not only that, but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rocks out on an air guitar, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is memorialized by cherubs and Dr. Anthony Fauci raises a devil fist. Safe to say, it’s not your average video. However, this is Peaches’ way of visualizing her admiration for these figures while also addressing the importance of mask-wearing.
We are all interconnected. There is no other option if we want to survive. My art involves contact. I am a live performer. If I want to have contact with my audience again I need to understand what is involved to safely do that and so does the general public.” In the past six months Peaches has started using music as a vehicle for tackling systemic oppression and educating her audience, encouraging her fans to talk about matters, but also to stay positive. To be honest, in these dreary times we need an artist like Peaches to remind us through humor and music what really matters.
