Paco Rabanne Spring/Summer 2023 Mixes Fetish With The Future
The collection plays with PVC and latex for a bondage-inspired collection.
The Paco Rabanne Spring/Summer 2023 collection is a long road from the skin-bearing chain dresses of vintage French it-girls. Shown in Paris, the “On A Mission” collection is hard-core, taking one step away from the brand’s romantic past and one leap into the uncertain future. Creative director Julien Dossena ushered in Paco Rabanne’s new era with black natural rubber invitations, a taste of the collection’s fetish-inspired fabrics.
The collection’s beginning introduces PVC babushka scarves, leather and lace, and black combat boots. A theme of juxtaposition is seen throughout, with latex crafting feminine pieces and vibrant patterns clashing against one another. Fabrics drawing on fetish wear and bondage fill the collection with edgy looks.
Later in the collection, modernistic metallic pieces and floral patterns are fitted under harnesses. T-shirts trick the eye with faux necklace prints, and sweatshirts catch the light with sewn-in silver details. Colorful watercolor fabrics splash trench coats, fitted dresses, and two-piece sets.
Models hold ultra-tiny chain-link bags, with some sitting in larger, clear bags. Other accessories include buckle chokers and bracelets, chain necklaces, reflective headscarves, and leather harnesses. References to many fashion movements serve as inspiration, seen in pieces that play with punk, fetish, and grunge essentials.
