Doja Cat Takes On Grunge
The Singer has just dropped her cover of Hole's 'Celebrity Skin' and we are loving it!
Queen of Pop-Rap, Doja Cat, has just released her cover of the iconic Hole song ‘Celebrity Skin’. The gritty cover is a far cry from the bubbly feel of her previous three albums which became fast fan favorites.
The beginning of 2020 saw Doja skyrocket to number one on the charts when ‘Say So’ became a bona-fide Tik Tok anthem. Everyone knew the dance, everyone knew the lyrics and we were all humming the tune for months after its release.
Although her new cover is further away from her usual style, it hasn’t come as much of a surprise to diehard fans who are aware of Doja's eclectic range. In 2020 she released a re-recording of ‘Say So’, the song that catapulted her career. In the new version, she adopted a far more alternative rock vibe, the previously funky mix replaced with choppy electric guitar; her previously soft voice taking on an impressive raspy tone.
The cover has been met with a warm critical reception. Doja has continued to impress people with her ability to perform in a plethora of genres, leaving fans wondering what she will do next.
For those hoping that this was an indicator of what her next album will be though, you may be disappointed to learn that this is not the case. The cover was produced for an advertising partnership with Taco Bell, so it’s probably separate from her personal projects.
In a previous Instagram live though, she stated that her next album would be a double feature. The first half focusing on her signature Rap/Pop style, the second, solely Hip Hop.

Until the next album drops though, at least we have this new cover to enjoy.
