Onitsuka Tiger Presents Spring/Summer 2022 Show On The Streets Of Tokyo

Japanese-based brand creates digital short film to showcase the new collection.

POSTED BY RAINA MENDONCA

Onitsuka Tiger presented its Spring/Summer 2022 collection in a beautifully crafted digital short film for Milan Fashion Week. The film was led under the creative direction of Andrea Pompilio and directed by Tokyo-based film director, Hideto Hotta.

The video begins by bringing the viewers on a trip from Milan to the empty streets of Tokyo. Encapsulating the essence of the city’s nightlife, the film takes us through the mysterious alleyways of Shinjuku and Shibuya. The neon lights electrify the streets of Tokyo, creating the perfect runway for the models to showcase the new collection. The short brings out the innate nightcrawler in its viewers by capturing the dynamic nature of the city – which is truly representative of the SS 2022 collection itself.

Pompilio continues to effortlessly blend fashion with sportswear, as shown by the geometric patterns and nylon-tailored suits. Inspired by the upcoming Year of the Tiger and the core symbol of the brand, animal print is incorporated into the tracksuits, shorts, and dresses. Energetic color combinations of aquamarine blue, burnt orange, and burgundy complement the nocturnal aesthetic of the bustling city. Bucket hats and backpacks serve as the perfect accessories to complete the progressive sportswear look.

Pompilio noted, “I wanted to evoke that ‘Lost in Translation’ vibe that Tokyo always spurs. I think it’s not so much connected to a communication gap, but rather to the overwhelming emotions that a visitor feels when arriving in town.”
