Olivia Rodrigo Wins Three Grammys Including Best New Artist
The 19-year-old had was up for seven awards at the 64th Grammy Awards
Olivia Rodrigo had unmatched success in 2021 when she kicked off the year with her release of “Drivers License” in January. The song went viral instantaneously and the song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks, making Rodrigo the youngest ever artist to debut atop the chart. This success only snowballed as she released follow-up singles “Déjà Vu” And “Good 4 You” as well as her debut album “Sour”; and it appears that Rodrigo’s 2022 is going equally as well as she shared a story of her childhood “pipe dream” to win a Grammy in one of her acceptance speeches.
Rodrigo scored three wins at the 64th Grammy Awards on Sunday night including the award for Best New Artist. Rodrigo also performed her 2021 hit “Drivers License” at the ceremony and blew fans away with her vocals on the night. The Disney star was nominated for seven awards in total and bagged the awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Drivers Licence”. However, Rodrigo may be taking one of her awards home a little worse for wear after she dropped and broke one of her three awards, a moment that was hilariously caught on camera by photographers on the red carpet. This was a moment reminiscent of Rodrigo’s hero Taylor Swift who famously dropped one of her four awards at the 2010 Grammys, a comparison that Rodrigo would surely revel in.
