Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Brutal’ Wardrobe Is A 2000’s Teenage Dream
Featuring vintage Betsey Johnson and archive Roberto Cavalli.
The sour era continues with Olivia Rodrigo’s new ‘brutal’ music video directed by Petra Collins. After working together on the ‘Good 4 U’ video, the duo has teamed up again to bring fans Y2K fashion, beauty and aesthetics.
LA-based stylist and consultant Ron Hartleben was enlisted to pull looks for the supporting cast (including Lukas Gage and Salem Mitchell) which included everything from Capezio ballerina tutus to an archive Thierry Mugler runway look. “Petra wanted it to be like a really angsty Y2K kind of vibe, like early 2000s movies. We talked a lot about teen movies, like Jawbreaker, Mean Girls, the classics that have turned popular again in this new Gen Z era,” stated Hartleben in PAPER magazine. “Those were all the foundation of the styling in terms of the extras and the just overall vibe.” Rodrigo worked with Chenelle and Chloe Delgadillo for her outfits which included vintage Betsey Johnson and archive Roberto Cavalli pieces.
“Had so much fun making this with my genius friend Petra Collins and I’m so stoked its out in the world!!!! Hope u love!” Olivia tweeted after the ‘brutal’ video dropped. She added on Instagram “So so grateful for @petrafcollins who constantly inspires me and who directed this video so incredibly. Hope u guys love the vid and all my teen angst lol.”
