The megastar will be awarded at the `August 28 live award show.
It’s going to be an eventful night for Nicki Minaj at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on August 28! The rap icon is going to be receiving the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award as well as giving her first performance for the award show since 2018.
The Video Vanguard Award is seen as a marker of artistic excellence, longevity, and overall immense impact on music and popular culture. Minaj will be the second female rapper to ever receive this honor, with Missy Elliott having won the award back in 2019. Other pop icons that have won the Vanguard Award in years prior include Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Madonna, and David Bowie.
Nicki first broke out into the scene in 2010 with the success of Your Love and ultimately her most well-known and beloved song to date Super Bass, for which she took home her first ever moonperson back at the 2011 award show. The rap icon has garnered a total of five moonpersons throughout her career out of a total of 17 nominations.
The Do We Have a Problem? rapper also has her highly anticipated new single Super Freaky Girl set to be released tomorrow on August 12, with the safe assumption being that it will be included in her upcoming VMA performance setlist.
