Nickelodeon Celebrates Pride Month with a SpongeBob SquarePants Surprise
The much loved character’s sexuality has been revealed.
Twitter has exploded following a tweet by the Nickelodeon account which revealed the sexuality of much-loved cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
The official tweet stated: ‘Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month’, sharing the images of SpongeBob SquarePants along with Korra from ‘The Legend of Korra’, a bisexual character, as well as the transgender actor Michael Cohen from ‘Henry Danger’.
In the early 2000s, Nickelodeon and creator of SpongeBob Stephen Hillenburg stated that SpongeBob was asexual, and not gay, however, speculations have arisen confirming the latter following this tweet at the beginning of Pride month.
