A new documentary airing next year on Channel 4, Girl Powered: The Spice Girls, will showcase the rise to stardom of Posh, Baby, Ginger, Sporty, and Scary Spice.

The documentary marks 25 years since their iconic single ‘Wannabe’, and will feature exclusive never seen before footage, and “revealing interviews”.

The commissioning editor of Channel 4 documentaries, Alisa Pomeroy, has stated: “The idea of using the story of the supremely popular and mold-breaking Spice girls to make a multi-layered social history series was too good to pass up.” She added: “The Spice Girls mirrored and influenced a generation of women and now, nearly 30 years since their formation, their story sheds light on the coming of age of modern feminism in ways we can fully appreciate for the first time.”

The group originally split in 1999, before two comeback tours in 2007 and 2019. Their 2007 reunion was originally captured in a BBC documentary titled Giving You Everything, however, the announcement of the 2021 documentary comes amid reports that the group will reunite for a world tour marking their 25th anniversary.
