The social media platform is scaling up their prices.

Just as TikTok took the world by storm, so did their premier selling destination, TikTok Shop. Currently available in Malaysia, the Phillippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Thailand, TikTok Shop allows sellers to offer products directly through the app in order to drive sales and brand growth.

When using TikTok shop, customers can discover products, view their details, checkout, and partake in post-payment activities without leaving the platform. Quick and easy, TikTok Shop has followed the footsteps of the likes of Depop and Poshmark, allowing anyone to sell their merchandise from individual sellers to small and large companies.

In recent news, TikTok Shop has added a new product category to their selection: pre-owned luxury. While the shop has been sought-after for its offerings including bodysuits, beauty products, and hairstyling tools, it will now claim its ground as a key player in apparel and accessories as well.

Despite current products being offered for as little as 50 cents, the new price cap has been raised to $4,000 as TikTok Shop enters the world of secondhand designer products. The eco-friendly move is a huge turn from their recent fast-fashion endeavors.

Taking inspiration from Vestiaire Collective and The RealReal, TikTok users can now pick up sought-after items on the app, such as pieces by Louis Vuitton and Dior. The secondhand luxury offering is available in the United Kingdom and the United States where it launched on Friday, April 19th, and it is soon to expand to other countries.

Currently, fived UK-based designer resale sites are involved in the development: Luxe Collective, Selliers Knightsbridge, Sign of the Times, Hardly Ever Worn It, and Break Archive. While a few bumps are still being evened out, companies like Luxe Collective have already felt the benefit of the move.

With this advancement, it’s certain that TikTok Shop will pull in new fans. Perhaps the change will assist the social media platform and its users in pulling away from the realm of fast fashion and dropshipping, too. One thing’s for certain, though: the popularity of secondhand luxury is only getting stronger, and it’s sure to be integrated into more online services.
