Mulatto Makes Her Mark With ‘On God’ Music Video

Enter Mulatto’s World Of Female Domination

POSTED BY ELLA CALLAND

You better familiarise yourself with the powerhouse that is Mulatto. This Atlanta born and raised rapper is on the rise, securing her spot as a new icon in hip hop.

Mulatto’s recent music video for “On God”, a single from her recent album Queen of da Souf, twists typical tropes on their head, challenging the male gaze by comically objectifying men. The monochromatic visual is brought to life by Cole Bennet & Lyrical Lemonade, and features cameos from Mariah the Scientist and Coi Leray.

It has been a poignant summer for women in music videos. Mulatto herself was among the cameos in Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion’s controversial video for WAP last month. Princess Nokia’s I Like Him visual also bulldozed expectations. Like Mulatto, these three women reclaimed autonomy and power not only through their sex-positive anthems but also with their videos which subverts typical gender roles.

Mulatto didn’t come to play, she wears her boss attitude proudly as she creates waves in the male-dominated rap game. Her recent 2020 XXL Freshman Freestyle blew up on social media, showcasing her unmatched skills and bringing her a newfound notoriety.

As the closing moments of the “On God” video leaves us with the image of a house floating in the sky, one thing is for sure, Mulatto is on another level.
