Money Talks: Vaquera's Fashion Rebellion

Dollar bill prints and designs.

POSTED BY OANA CRISTINA GRIGORESCU

Vaquera's Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection made a splash at Paris Fashion Week, diving deep into themes of money and power. Designers Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee, known for their provocative and boundary-pushing aesthetics, took their exploration of fashion's relationship with money to new heights.

In an industry where background can be as much a currency as creativity, Vaquera's latest offering is a bold statement on the value of self-made success. DiCaprio and Taubensee, hailing from Alabama and Indiana respectively, stand apart in a world often criticized for its reliance on connections over talent. Their collection serves as a critique of this, questioning the fairness in an industry swayed by nepotism.

The runway was a canvas for their commentary, with dollar bill prints adorning everything from scarves to dresses, symbolizing the omnipresence of money in fashion. Yet, it was their use of exaggerated luxury items, like oversized faux fur coats and crystal buckle pumps, that sharpened their critique of the performative wealth within the industry.

More than just a visual feast, the collection was a confrontation. It challenged the audience with extreme cutouts and bold statements, pushing the envelope on what fashion can say about society. The inclusion of buoy hoop skirts and references to past collections, like the babydoll sailor dress, underscored Vaquera's commitment to innovation and their unique voice in the conversation on fashion's future.

Through their Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, Vaquera not only questioned the role of money in fashion but also celebrated the power of creativity and individuality in breaking through the industry's barriers. It's a reminder that in the world of fashion, bold ideas and a rebellious spirit can be the most valuable currency of all.

What do you think? Can real talent outshine nepotism?
