MELLER Lab’s PROJECT 02 Moves Like It’s Thinking

Built and pushed past intention.

POSTED BY ZOE TYLER

MELLER isn’t calling PROJECT 02 a sequel—and honestly, that makes sense. It doesn’t feel like a follow-up. It feels like something that evolved on its own.

What started in the Lab as a controlled design process quickly moves beyond that. The end result doesn’t read like a product at all—it feels alive. Less “designed,” more like something that came together naturally, almost instinctively.

Visually, PROJECT 02 taps straight into the resurgence of futuristic eyewear, where ‘90s sport silhouettes are making a comeback—but sharper, sleeker, and way more self-aware. The campaign leans into this with an anime-inspired narrative: a liquid metal form escaping containment, searching for completion. It doesn’t destroy what it touches—it merges with it. And when it finally becomes a pair of sunglasses, it doesn’t feel transformed. It feels finished.

That idea runs through the entire collection. Not design as something built piece by piece, but something that comes together all at once.

PROJECT 02 drops in four colorways—Blue, Black, Red, and White—but they don’t feel like separate designs. More like different moods of the same energy. There’s this constant tension between precision and movement: clean, almost minimal lines clashing with that fast, sporty ‘90s edge. Even when they’re just sitting still, the frames look like they’re about to move.

The materials follow that same logic. Metal meets nylon lenses, grounded by eco-acetate temples with these almost liquid, metallic overlays. It’s not decorative—it’s deliberate. Every element feels like it’s been pushed to work together, even if it wasn’t meant to at first.

PROJECT 02 lives in that space between opposites—structured and fluid, engineered and instinctive. And somehow, it all lands exactly where it’s supposed to.
