Preserving Luxury Craftsmanship for the Digital Age.

A new center for craftsmanship is set to open in Paris by the end of 2025, thanks to LVMH, the world’s leading luxury group. The center will be the home of the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence, a vocational training program that LVMH launched in 2014 to preserve and pass on the skills and know-how of the luxury industry.

The program covers 280 different crafts and professions, from leather goods to perfumery, and has trained more than 2,700 people in seven countries so far. This year, it has enrolled 700 students who will benefit from the expertise of 22,000 artisans employed by LVMH. The new center will also offer new courses in niche fields, such as gem sculpting and eyewear manufacturing.

The center will be located in a 21,500 square foot building that will serve as a hub for learning and innovation. Alexandre Boquel, Head of Development for LVMH’s Métiers d’Excellence, says that the center will be open to all and will teach a physical gesture to anyone who enters, whether they are novices, members of the public or researchers in craftsmanship.

The center’s goal is not only to celebrate the heritage of craftsmanship, but also to prepare the students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. “It’s extremely important to talk about that because when we talk to young people, they’re always afraid that these are jobs from 200 years ago and they won’t be able to relate,” Boquel says. “Letting them know that these professions also use digital technology reassures them.”

The construction of the center is slated to begin next year and will mark a new milestone for LVMH’s commitment to excellence and creativity.
