Laufey Dazzles Us with ‘60s Madwoman Music Video
What happens when musicians, an Olympian, an actress and a hockey player assemble?
Laufey, the Icelandic-Chinese jazz pop singer, has crafted yet another culturally significant moment with the music video for her new release, ‘Madwoman.’ With its campy, brightly colored aesthetic and an iconic, mixed Asian cast, the singer has once again taken over our for-you page.

Set in sunny California, the music video paints a pool-party scene featuring Laufey’s gorgeous, fictional boyfriend, none other than Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams. She invites along her chic friend group: Lola Tung, from The Summer I Turned Pretty, Megan Skiendiel from KATSEYE, and of course, the Olympic skating showstopper we all fell in love with this winter, Alysa Liu. They make the perfect four, gossiping and laughing alongside their eccentric choreography. Sporting updos and graphic liner, they’ve truly committed to the ‘60s theme.

Depicting feminine rage and manipulative relationships, ‘Madwoman’s’ music video visually captures the conflicting duality behind the song. Everything appears fine on the surface – perfectly coordinated outfits, pops of color, and exaggerated smiles all around. The eerie twist following Williams’ proposal at the end spins the story into a sinister thriller, with a threatening ending full of anticipation. With Laufey’s charming performance and gripping narrative, it's no wonder this has made fans instantly fall in love again!

With Asian creators also working behind the scenes, like director Warren Fu, Laufey has realised her aspiration to create the representation she desired as a young artist. She assembles what the internet has coined “the Wasian Avengers” to bring this concept to life, and they all had loads of fun being involved in this project. This follows the awkward clip from the Golden Globes earlier this year, where cameramen mistook Laufey for the KATSEYE star, to which she clapped back with the witty response of her red carpet photos captioned “🧡megan🧡”. ‘Madwoman’ not only empowers aspiring Asian artists but also inspires and reinforces community.
Laufey’s music video complements her vintage pop style while maintaining a chokehold on her pop fans. Released just days after her Coachella debut, she has once again proven her capabilities as a serious artist while maintaining her old ditsy charm. She leaves us all longing for more of her whimsy with her next releases!
