LaQuan Smith’s Sensual FW21

Fearless fabrics combined with sexy sophistication.

POSTED BY TESS HARDY

New York luxury designer, LaQuan Smith, has turned up the heat with his daring collection for Fall/Winter 2021, adding a touch of glamour to standard boardroom class. The designer’s fearless creations feature sheer, glossy and velvet fabrics with provocative cut-out details.

Contrasting textures are presented in a predominantly warm, earthy color palette, adding shades of gray, black, white and deep blue. Corseted pieces compliment cropped jackets, tights and gorgeous rust-colored pants. Pointy heels are on display. Figure-hugging jumpsuits shape the body with luxe velour stripes of animal print, and feminine ruffles exaggerate the shoulders of a PVC mini dress.

The bold sensuality of the collection doesn’t go amiss with signature details. Modesty is captured through wooly high-collars and turtlenecks, balanced with comfortable pencil skirts, leather gloves and a return of the beret.

Celebs such as Beyoncé and Rihanna have sustained the brand’s specialties, along with Kim Kardashian who wore three versions of the PVC corset top and hip moto pants for her latest fragrance launch in January. “I can’t gift celebs, I’m a Black-owned company, working toward carving out the idea of what Black luxury means,” explains LaQuan Smith. “When celebs want to purchase from me, I find it supporting, and women who follow them see it, so it’s helped with exposure and retail…but I used to get comments like, ‘Do you have to be a celeb to wear LaQuan Smith?’ No, but when a woman wears the clothes, she feels like a celebrity.”

He continued, “I’m excited about reshaping what sexy means because it has been given a bad rep. There is something for everyone, as long as you want to celebrate the body, I’m here for you.”

If you’d love to embrace your sexuality as much as LaQuan Smith does, you can find the label at Saks Fifth Avenue, The Webster and Fwrd.com.
