The queer romcom Happiest Season features a story of a lesbian couple, Abby (Kristen Stewart) and Harper (Clea DuVall), who go home together to meet Harper’s conservative parents. The only problem is that they don’t know she’s gay. This is why they need to play out many in-the-closet tropes.
Kristen Stewart articulates the importance of this move in unfixing the standardized rom-com genre that doesn’t normally feature marginalized people. ‘I want people to see that two girls in love is just so fun,’ she adds.
The movie also features Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, and Mary Holland. It will be available via Hulu on November 25. You can watch the trailer here.
