Kate Moss’ First Product As Diet Coke’s Creative Director Has Hit Select Store Shelves
The 90s icon honored Diet Coke's 40th anniversary with her collection.
Earlier this month, supermodel Kate Moss was announced as the new creative director for Diet Coke ahead of the brand’s 40th anniversary. Moss’ new role allowed her to make limited edition merchandise and videos for the brand. Some may wonder, “Why would Diet Coke partner with Kate Moss?”; for decades, Diet Coke has partnered with the fashion industry, so it makes sense for the 90s icon to work with the soda company.
Karl Lagerfeld, the late German fashion designer, was Diet Coke’s creative director from 2010 to 2011 and gave a now famous interview about how often he drinks the fizzy beverage. Lagerfeld explained to Harper’s Bazaar, “I drink Diet Coke from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed. I can even drink it in the middle of the night, and I can sleep. I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink tea, I drink nothing else.” Following the German designer’s stint at Diet Coke, eclectic designer Jean Paul Gaultier took over in 2012.
Gaultier and Lagerfeld, and now Kate Moss, created limited-edition cans and bottles when working with Diet Coke. Moss followed in the designer’s footsteps by including fashion-related details on the cans. The supermodel’s designs include her signature and various textiles featured on the lower half of the can. When explaining her reasoning behind the look of her collection, the fashion icon explained, “I was inspired by my favourite looks worn over the years – and how good they made me feel at the time.”
