Kenneth Ize Launches Collection With Karl Lagerfeld
The SS21 collaboration is a combination of Nigerian and European styles.
House of Karl Lagerfeld have unveiled their collaboration capsule collection with designer Kenneth Ize, a 2019 finalist for the LVMH prize.
The collection was first announced in June 2020 and is curated by Carine Roitfeld and designed by Hun Kim for Spring/Summer 2021. The range is a combination of Nigerian and European styles with fresh takes on ready-to-wear staples, as well as gender-neutral styles and accessories. The fabric from the collection is ethically sourced from Nigeria with graphic black-and-white checkerboard prints on trousers, skirts and shirts and multi-colored stripes on knit garments. The line-up also includes suits with contrasting color themes and simple tees printed with Kenneth Ize and Karl Lagerfeld’s logos.
“This was such an incredible experience” Ize said of the partnership. “It allowed me to play with the brand’s existing style codes and expand my own approach to design. I hope the public falls in love with the result.” Fashion editor, Carine Roitfeld who proposed the collaboration adds: “I’m certain that Karl would have loved the collection and its exploration of color and culture.” Karl Lagerfeld CEO Pier Paolo Righi echoed Roitfeld’s comments: “Kenneth shares Karl’s vision for innovation, craftsmanship, quality and authenticity and we are excited to bring the fruits of this collaboration to the public.”
The Kenneth Ize x Karl Lagerfeld range will be available online and in select Karl stores starting July 7.
