Kenneth Ize Debuts Stunning FW20 Collection At Paris Fashion Week
The LVMH Prize finalist showed up to show out.
Kenneth Ize has been turning everyone’s head during his runway at Paris Fashion Week. His incorporation of traditional West African fabrics with bold hues and patterns cements him as one of the fresh designers to watch.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ize originally gained attention from his genderless woven garments, later going on to focus more primarily on menswear tailoring with a hint of femininity. His FW20 showcases his signature touch to woven pieces: a frayed hem offering a fringe effect. Speaking to the New York Times in May 2019, Ize spoke on the essence of his brand, “We’re reviving, reinterpreting and giving new context to artisan techniques that have given meaning to West African identity.”
The combination of heritage and fashion alongside cultural techniques can not only create some delicately beautiful pieces, but also bring some much-needed diversity into the industry whilst informing others of the importance and beauty of fashions from around the globe. Through his designs, Ize is doing exactly that and we have a feeling he’s not slowing down any time soon. We’re ready for whatever is next.
