Jean-Paul Gaultier Takes Us To The French Riviera
The latest ready-to-wear collection melds the early aughts with the 90s.
The luxury brand has decided to take us back to the French Riviera in the early 2000s. Model Irina Shayk is backdropped by blue water, sandy beaches and gorgeous summery views as she adorns this new collection. Lensed by British photographer Charlotte Wales, Shayk is captured lounging on the shores of the French Riviera exuding the nonchalant summer holiday energy, that we would all like to be experiencing right now.
We see how sultry silhouettes are combined with the 90’s proclivity for prints throughout the collection, which we see in the form of the classic Jean Paul Gaultier tattoo prints on jerseys and stretch tulles. In homage to the Spring/Summer 1994 show “Les Tatouges”, the banknote print makes its re-entry in the form of three new stretched and recomposed prints.
Heavily featured in the collection is denim, coming in the form of corseted seams and low waists. Knitwear makes an appearance in the form of fine twists and light summer layers. We also see Shayk in a bright red one-piece and a sexy black version that features sexy side lacing.
This collection isn’t for the shy with an array of pieces in vibrant pinks and greens that are paired with dramatic costume jewelry. The standouts include a large green necklace that twists and turns across the chest to spell ‘JPG’, circular sunshine yellow sunglasses and large round earrings that we see in a range of colorways.
