Hippie Movement, Psychedelia, Folklore, And Astrology, Encapsulated In One Song

She’s perched between a dreamy world and a dystopian vision, both created in her boundless imagination yet clearly inspired by the surrounding reality. What other aesthetics could embody these conflicting senses better than a trip down musical lane to the spiritual and psychedelic 1970s?

With her newest single ‘Cold,’ Zofia Alaya, a Polish-born and London-based singer proves her position as a modern flower child, living in the cruel 21st century. Inspirations taken from the hippie era are envisioned not only in the dreamy indie-pop melody but also, in the song’s lyrical concern about the state of the world. ‘Cold’ reveals Zofia’s careful observations of the reality and worries resulting from them.

‘There is anger, fear, anxiety but so little love. I feel like my generation really struggles with being true to themselves. It’s so hard to find real, sincere people,’ she shares her frustrations. As a true hippie, though, Zofia wishes to find a light at the end of the tunnel. ‘This song is meant to make people reflect upon real friendships and relationships as well as reassure them that some of us, including myself, still seek love and honesty.’

Flower children, seeking love and honesty, gather round and listen to ‘Cold’ by Zofia Alaya.
