Hikari Shimoda Unveils 'Questions for Living in the World'
Discover Shimoda's world at CHG Gallery's mesmerizing art exhibit.
Get ready for a captivating art experience in downtown Los Angeles as Corey Helford Gallery presents Hikari Shimoda's latest series, "Questions for Living in the World," debuting on Saturday, November 18th. Renowned for her enchanting and disarming New Contemporary paintings, Shimoda, a Japanese artist, gained international acclaim with her 2014 exhibition "Fantastic Planet, Goodbye Man" at CHG.
In this exhibition, Shimoda masterfully juxtaposes themes from her ongoing series, "Children of This Planet" and "Whereabouts of God," creating a world where cuteness and horror coalesce. Exploring the complexities of existence in a world marked by sorrow, loneliness, and salvation, she shares, "I continue to create works using the theme of how we live in this world of sorrow, loneliness, and salvation...expressing people living in the present age."
Notably, her "Whereabouts of God" series, including pieces like "God is Dead, But...," delves into the philosophical musings of Friedrich Nietzsche, portraying the challenges of denying fiction and embracing the harsh reality. Shimoda's artworks poignantly depict the mental journey of seeking truth, with some pieces featuring scars on the necks of young boys symbolizing clarity emerging over time.
The exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, and kicks off on November 18th at 7:00 pm in CHG's Main Gallery, running alongside Josie Morway's solo show, "Course of Empire," in Gallery 2. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the evocative world of Hikari Shimoda's art, on display until December 23rd.
