GRAACE Turns ‘Self Sabotage’ Into ‘Self Preservation’
Her newest EP proves that miracles can happen.
Sydney-based singer and songwriter, GRAACE, endowed with an incredibly soothing, almost sandy voice, has Alanis Morissette’s sensitivity, Tori Amos’s depth, Alessia Cara’s vibrato, and her own signature melancholy revealed through pop ballads. Her newest EP, ‘Self Preservation’ has just come out. Curiously enough, the title refers to her previous music and twists GRAACE’s understanding of herself and the reality around her.
‘My first EP, ‘Self Sabotage’ was born through a chain of events. After torturing myself and putting incredible pressure on my relationships and friendships, I turned to art to ease the pain,’ she explains. ‘I lived a fast-paced life during the period, being told where to go and what to do, that I lost sight of who I was and why I loved music. I forgot why I was doing what I was doing.’
This is why her newest EP helped GRAACE to find her way again. ‘After a year of feeling lost, I sat down in the mirror, wrote down the reasons why I started writing music when I was 12, and thought to myself, let's rewrite your story. This is my story of Self Preservation.’
The release of the EP with five vulnerable, emotional, touching yet catchy songs is accompanied by a music video for EP track ‘Selfish’, featuring her all-female live band. If there’s anything that we love more than a talented woman, it’s probably… a group of talented women.
‘Self Preservation’ by GRAACE proves that anything is possible.
