Model and actress Cara Delevingne has recently shared her experiences with Harvey Weinstein, former film producer and now better known as the man being charged with sexual abuse allegations from women across industry.

Delevingne, a woman proud of her openness and sexuality, revealed that not everyone in the industry welcomed her fluid sexuality and openness, especially Harvey Weinstein who told her she needed to “get a beard” if she wanted to succeed in Hollywood. She spoke to Net-a-Porter, saying “One of the first things Harvey Weinstein ever said to me was, ‘You will never make it in this industry as a gay woman – get a beard’. [It was] a long time before he tried to touch me.”

In 2017, Delevingne, alongside Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, stepped forward to accuse Weinstein of making sexual advances towards her, demeaning comments, and even asking her to kiss another woman in front of him, as she shared on her Instagram.

To Net-a-Porter, she added: “When I’d just started to audition for films, he was naming people [women] I’m friends with – famous people – and asking ‘Have you slept with this person?’ I just thought: this is insane.” She also said: “As soon as we were alone he began to brag about all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers and spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature.”

Whilst Weinstein is still facing his trial following the accusations by Delevingne and others, she admitted the industry as a whole needs to face a bigger change in order to stop labeling and discriminating against people and their sexualities. Kristen Stewart also recently revealed that she was warned against public displays of affection with her girlfriend, in case it damaged her career.
