Supermodels Are Not Only Pretty Faces

People often associate real beauty with imperfections in other capacities. Maybe it is hard for us to comprehend that someone pretty can be talented in more ways. Sure, we may be a little jealous that they are the fortunate ones who possess the whole package, but that’s how it is. And though the modeling world isn’t the first place that comes to mind when we look for intellectuals, turns out, some of the ladies in the business have much to brag about in this matter.

To clarify, we will not only be talking about big-time supermodels who are used to walking the catwalk during the top fashion shows in Paris, London, Milan or New York. We’ll also include fascinating women who do other things apart from their modeling jobs.

Naturally, there are women whose lives pretty much revolve around their careers in the fashion industry. A range that includes a lot of things, such as fashion shows, magazine covers, promotional campaigns, advertisements and similar. Sometimes, this can mean landing an exciting gig in TV or movies. After all, show business does like attractive folks. Often, the famous pretty faces from the front pages of Vogue or Elle do end up on the big or silver screen. Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kate Upton and Brooklyn Decker are only a few names of models who made it in Hollywood. To do that, they had to have something more to show than good looks. Cara Delevingne’s trademark eyebrows and unique charm weren’t the only things that allowed her to get the parts in films like “Paper Towns,” “Suicide Squad,” “Tulip Fever” and “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.”

However, in some cases, it’s hard to distinguish between the primary and secondary profession like for Gal Gadot, Milla Jovovich and Sharon Stone. Besides that, supermodels tend to engage in social campaigns and charities and even run companies. And despite taking advantage of all sorts of advisors and professionals, some do have a clue that what they are doing is indispensable. Among the beautiful ladies with successful businesses, some of the most prominent are Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford, Kathy Ireland, Iman and Tyra Banks.

On the other hand, there are women who treat their modeling career as an adventure, additional hobby or a way to promote their brand to wider audiences. And I don’t only mean the ones trying to stick out from the crowd on Instagram. There are women that are so good at what they do that being on the covers of magazines is but a mere addition to their colorful lives. Such is more than likely the case for British professional poker player Liv Boeree, who in her spare time, occasionally works as a model and TV presenter. Top that with a degree in physics and astrophysics, and you have an explosive mixture. When encountering her as your online opposition, even if we were talking about those top casinos with live play options, you will only have to deal with her high-caliber card playing skills. It’s enough to scare even the tough guys away. During the big TV-covered events, there is also her distracting attractiveness to worry about, too. People who mistake beauty for weakness are in for the surprise at the poker tables. And while Lyndsey Scott may present herself very well on runaways, she also has a degree in computer science. Her coding skills helped with building an app called iPort, used for managing models’ portfolios. Similar goes for Marland Backus, an industry designer who graduated from the Pratt Institute.

Although it is true that candidates are recruited early for this career, and therefore, many young girls don’t have the means and opportunities to take care of their education in a proper way, intelligence is measured in various manners. The pun is very much intended. Moreover, it is a demanding industry that requires plenty of effort, sacrifice and hard work. As well as a lot of pressure and heavy competition, too. Only strong personalities manage to get to the top like Marisa Bryant, who even started off managing herself. But not every aspiring model neglects the academic path. Among many models who finished college are Cameron Russell, Lily Cole, Kinga Rajzak, Brooke Shields, Saskia de Brauw, and the prestigious schools they graduated from include Columbia University, Cambridge University, Princeton, Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and the University of London.
