George Floyd's Family is Filing a $250 Million Lawsuit Against Kanye West
The lawsuit is due to West's slanderous comments on the infamous death of Floyd.
It seems as though every two days there is another reason as to why Kanye West is all over the headlines for a never-ending parade of controversies and scandals. Whether it’s abusing and bullying his ex-wife Kim Kardashian (as well as her family members and her now ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson) via social media or in interviews, or engaging in harmful anti-semitic rhetoric on Twitter, or recently debuting his new Yeezy Season 9 collection at Paris Fashion Week which included T-shirts adorned with “White Lives Matter” labels in the back, Ye is always finding a way to stir up trouble and drag innocent people into his mess.
His most recent victims, however, have struck a nerve with several of even his most loyal supporters and is considerably a whole new low for the rapper. On a three hour-long episode of Drink Champs, the Yeezy designer tackled a variety of topics that have been circulating around him in the media, including his recent stint at PFW with his “White Lives Matter” T-shirts. This is where Ye then makes extremely disrespectful and slanderous statements regarding the death of George Floyd, claiming he died of a fentanyl overdose rather than being murdered by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who is currently serving a 22-year sentence in prison after being convicted of murdering Floyd.
Not only did Drink Champs co-host N.O.R.E issue a statement condemning Ye’s harmful comments as well as removing the episode from distribution, but George Floyd’s family is now stepping up in fierce defense of Floyd and his legacy. Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s only daughter, is now filing a lawsuit against West as well as his “business partners and associates” with the help from Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law.
The lawsuit is being filed under the claim that Ye’s false comments are a form of harassment that are causing emotional distress towards the Floyd family, in particular his young daughter, as well as a misappropriation and defamation toward Geord Floyd. One attorney from Witherspoon Law Group issued a statement claiming that Ye’s comments are traumatizing George Floyd’s daughter and creating a highly unsafe environment for the young child.
Kanye and his team have yet to comment on the lawsuit, however he was seen out in Los Angeles on Tuesday wearing his “White Lives Matter” T-shirt and giving them away to the homeless.
