An Homage To Geek Chic

I was in a bookshop the other day, and while walking past the teen fiction, the Geek Girl books caught my eye—a series I had never read but remembered distinctly from my youth. It got me thinking about how long it’s been since I’ve heard anyone talking about the ‘Geek Chic’ style. Did it die out in the 2010s?

I would argue that it has evolved. When Season 2 of Euphoria dropped in 2022, fans were obsessed with Lexi’s knitted cardigans, Peter Pan collars, and overall preppy style. The next year, we saw the Office Siren aesthetic blowing up—the ‘nerdy’ look was shifting from Lexi’s cute plaids to something more sultry and grown-up. And now, after seeing the Prada F/W 2026 runway, full of blazers, sweaters, and wacky colors, I can’t help but wonder if we’re going to see a new interpretation of Geek Chic—something wilder and more eclectic.

It would make sense after the whimsical trend exploded into the mainstream this year and last, and would be a logical continuation of the ‘Frazzled English Woman Aesthetic.’ As an avid fan of both of these aesthetics, and really anything a bit fun and outlandish, I would be all for it. I will be keeping my brighter knitwear close at hand.
