Forgotten Laundry Turned This 80-Year-Old Couple Into Fashion Icons
And There’s A Message About Sustainability
A stack of abandoned laundry, a stylish grandson and a camera turned out to be the cure to boredom for an elderly couple stuck inside after business slowed due to the pandemic, and now they’re basically influencers.
Longtime owners of the central Taiwan-based store Wansho Laundry are Chang Wan-Ji, 83, and his wife Hsu Sho-er, 84, who became the latest unexpected Instagram sensations as pictures of them modelling patrons’ forgotten laundry emerged on Instagram. The idea came from the couple’s 31-year-old grandson, Reef Chang, who set up the account @wantshowasyoung, becoming his grandparents’ stylist and photographer as the shots quickly went viral.
After just 22 posts the couple have now amassed over half a million followers who can’t get enough of the cute couple. Married since 1959, the pair can be seen beaming as they pose in creative outfits put together out of the discarded garments, and we’re totally into it. Not only does the @wantshowasyoung account show that style has no age, it also proves the power of sustainable fashion. We’re definitely inspired to dig deep in our closets to get creative!
Friendly reminder: Maybe don’t forget to pick up your laundry…unless it’s at Wansho.
