Follow These 6 Tips If You Wear Contact Lenses
If in doubt, take them out.
Whether you’re sporting some colored-contacts for a themed night out, or trying out a prescription alternative to eyewear, follow these tips to keep your eyes bright and healthy.
1. Know Your Vendor
Rule Number One: buy some decent lenses. Don’t get a hold of the cheapest pair you see online, they’re probably not that safe for you or your eyes. Stick with a reputable brand and consult an eye care professional if you have any questions.
2. Keep It Clean
Your hands are in constant contact with nasty bacteria, whereas your eyes? Not so much. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly every time you go to put in and take out your contacts - and you’re gonna want to keep your index finger and thumb nails filed too.
3. Short And Sweet
Wearing lenses day in and day out can dry your eyes out somewhat (although premium brands like Acuvue use specialist materials to combat this). Don’t keep them in for too long, especially if you’re not yet an adult and haven’t finished growing.
4. No Swimming
Showering and swimming are not a good idea. Contact with water makes the transmission of bacteria and germs very easy, and can cause lasting damage to your cornea. Save yourself the aggro and take ‘em out beforehand.
5. Sweet, Sightless Dreams
Sleeping in contacts is a big no-no. You don’t want to wake up with gunky, crusted eyes that feel like they’ve been shoved full of grit. No halloween look is worth it - trust me on this one.
6. If In Doubt, Take Them Out
At the end of the day, if your contacts are making your eyes red, sore, or affecting your vision then they’re doing you damage and you should remove them as soon as you can. There may be a specific reason why, and speaking to a professional should sort it out.
