How To Dress Like A Final Girl
Flared jeans forever.
I have always thought horror movies are full of fashion inspiration — anyone could recognize Jennifer Check's heart-patterned cardigan, or Tiffany Valentine's leather jacket and bridal gown combo. But when it comes to the character whose style I most want to emulate, it has to be, of course, the Final Girl. When you could be the girl who outlasts everyone else, what other choice is there?
Simple Silhouettes

You'll find that most classic horror heroines wear a lot of simple silhouettes. There are big, slouchy jumpers like Sidney Prescott's grey one, and a personal favorite: Julie James' white two-piece top and cardigan. After watching I Know What You Did Last Summer, I thought Julie was the epitome of '90s cool — now I'm always on the lookout for white two-pieces.
Plain And Neutral

Another recurring theme I've found is a lack of bold colors, patterns, and motifs. You're much more likely to see whites, creams, pale blues, and browns than anything outlandish. The Final Girl doesn't dress to draw attention, and this benefits her when she spends a lot of time hiding from villains.
Flared Trousers

Would Sally Hardesty still be as iconic without her purple tank top and white flares? Would Laurie Strode have signaled her practicality without her blue button-up and flared jeans? If you're going to be doing all that running, I say you may as well do it in style.
Midi Skirts

Final Girls possess a girl-next-door charm that might seem antithetical to their badass reputation — but it allows them to show they're badass through their survival skills. As a lover of feminine fashion, let me remind you that one silhouette we often see is midi skirts, like Laurie Strode's floral skirt over white tights. If your style leans a little more toward the demure, girlish, bookish side, then congratulations: there's a good chance you're surviving your movie.
Whether you're running from a horror villain or simply heading out for coffee, the Final Girl aesthetic proves that practical doesn't have to mean boring. Sometimes the most iconic outfits are the ones that make you feel comfortable, confident, and ready for anything.
