The highly celebrated and influential fashion journalist André Leon Talley passed away in New York at the age of 73. Before working with icon Anna Wintour, Talley had the honor of being the intern of former Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland. He assisted her at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It was also her who helped him get a job at Andy Warhol's Interview magazine.

From 1983 to 1987, Talley was Vogue's fashion news director and then went on to become the magazine's first African-American male creative director. From 1998 to 2013, he was the magazine's editor-at-large. André Leon Talley is also known for having contributed to the diversity of the fashion industry. His influence inspired designers to hire more African-American models.

For those interested in learning more about Talley, he recently published his memoir The Chiffon Trenches
