Givenchy Spring 2022 x Chito
Givenchy’s Spring 2022 Pre-collection counts with airbrush designs by artist Chito.
Givenchy will premiere selected pieces from the Spring 2022 Givenchy x Chito Pre-Collection worldwide on July 16th.
Touching on Williams’ journey from the U.S, his homeland, to France, is now home, the collection draws inspiration from both cultures that are now part of him. To reinforce that sense of dual-identity, William’s invited long-time friend and Seatle-born, Mexico-based artist Chito to develop airbrush graphics for the resort collection, blending his trademark symbols with the House emblems.
Shot by Jasmine Loignon, the collection video took place in several Paris locations including the Statue of Liberty replica on the Seine river and a vintage train yard. In the closing shot, New York and Paris are one. “It’s that idea of a journey to Paris from New York,” said the American designer. “I loved this idea of the airbrush graphics being like the artwork that would be on the trains (…) A lot of people also don’t realize necessarily that the Statue of Liberty is here, and its connection to France. That’s something I always wanted to do since I moved here — to do a show at the Statue of Liberty — and this was a great opportunity to do so.”
Chito’s emblematic characters of cartoon dogs, a symbol of protection and loyalty, and sad clowns were replicated on t-shirts, denim jackets, ruched dresses, hoodies, backpacks, sneakers, masks, and RIMOWA suitcases. The artist's aerographic aesthetic merged beautifully with the designer’s sharp tailoring. “Coming from creating unique pieces with airbrushed embellishments on rare objects and garments, and now being able to bring them to the world is something special in itself,” said Chito. “Only Givenchy would be able to make that happen.”
Due to drop on WeChat in China, on July 9, it will arrive in Givenchy stores worldwide on July 16, while the rest of the collection will go on sale in November.
