Famous Characters That Made Us Romanticize The Fashion Industry

How TV and movie icons turned fashion careers into dreams.

POSTED BY ANNMARY MAILYAN

The movies and TV shows we grew up watching have shaped more than just our taste in entertainment. From childhood, they influence our personalities, interests, and even our career aspirations. I personally have always been drawn and fascinated by creative characters who had a career in writing, and here I am! Some of these characters worked in the fashion industry, and they loved their jobs so much, it made us all romanticize and dream about working in this sphere as well. Let's take a look at some of them.

Carrie Bradshaw: The Ultimate Fashion Writer Fantasy

One of those icons is Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. At first, she was a newspaper columnist, but in later seasons, she became a Vogue editor, which is honestly a dream-come-true moment. Carrie’s wardrobe was as iconic as her writing, with every outfit looking as though it belonged on the cover of a glossy magazine.

Rachel Green: From Waitress to Fashion Powerhouse

Another unforgettable inspiration is Rachel Green from Friends. She went a long way from working as a waitress to becoming a coordinator at Ralph Lauren and later being offered a fashion executive position at Louis Vuitton in Paris. Maybe she wasn’t great with errands, as her roommate Monica noted, but she was definitely a great fashion expert, always giving her friends styling advice.

Miranda Priestly & Andy Sachs: Inside Fashion Publishing

This list wouldn’t be complete without the most glamorous 00’s rom-com, The Devil Wears Prada, which gave us a glimpse into the world of high-fashion publishing. While some were jealous of Andy getting the junior assistant job at Runway, most of us were absolutely mesmerized by the legendary Miranda Priestley. It’s safe to say that she became even more famous than her real-life inspiration, Anna Wintour.

Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl managed to become a fashion authority even when she was just a high school student, all thanks to her natural sense of style. The show aired almost 20 years ago, but her signature outfits remain relevant to this day. In later seasons, she turned her true passion into a career by launching her own brand, Waldorf Designs.

Jenna Rink: The Dream Magazine Editor Life

Then there’s Jenna Rink from 13 Going On 30 who made a wish to become “thirty, flirty, and thriving”, and ended up getting the ultimate dream life. Not only did she have an amazing penthouse in Manhattan with a huge wardrobe full of chic designer clothes, but she was also working as an editor at a leading fashion magazine. Her office was another source of inspiration, filled with magazine issues, mood boards, and clothing sketches.

Fashion marketing has never seemed this fun and glamorous, at least not until Emily Cooper from Emily in Paris came around. She worked as a marketing executive at a luxury firm and made it look like the best job ever. Her working days were full of creative brainstorming sessions, brand meetings, exclusive events, boutique gifts, and gorgeous outfits. Even though real marketing specialists often criticize the show for an inaccurate portrayal of this profession, a girl can still fantasize, right?
