With a move that is shocking the fashion world, Bottega Veneta announced that it is parting ways with its creative director, Daniel Lee. After being scouted from his work at the Celine studio, Lee joined the Italian luxury brand for his first creative director assignment, bringing a unique, innovative vision to the label for over three years.

Lee Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, released a statement saying: “I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication to the House over the past three years. He provided Bottega Veneta with a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity, while remaining respectful of the brand’s fifty-year heritage. The remarkable growth of the brand over the last three years bears testimony to the success of his creative work.”

During his time at Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee brought a new identity to the brand and received global recognition for his revolutionary designs and ideas. He produced highly-coveted items like the “Pouch” and “Cassette” bags as well as claiming the “Bottega green” shade overnight. When the pandemic hit and the future of fashion shows were questioned, Lee refused the notion of a digital show and decided to take his own course. He adopted a salon concept where Bottega Veneta would present its collections off-calendar to local audiences in unorthodox locations, like Berlin and Detroit. Not to mention Lee also made the decision to delete all of the fashion label’s social media accounts.

Kering, the brand’s parent company, characterized the parting as a “joint decision,” much to the surprise of the fashion world. Lee released a statement saying: “My time at Bottega Veneta has been an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am forever thankful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thank you to Francois-Henri Pinault for his support, and for the opportunity to be part of Bottega Veneta’s story.”

The release included that “a new creative direction” for the house will be announced soon. For now we will be kept on our toes, anticipating the future of the luxury brand as well as Lee’s next moves.
