Bottega Veneta Travels To Detroit To Present Salon 03 Collection
Mary J. Blige and Lil Kim head to the birthplace of techno for the illustrious event.
Known for its technical and innovative spirit, the Motor City was chosen as the destination for the debut of Bottega Veneta’s Salon 03 Collection. Creative director, Daniel Lee, has garnered undeniable fascination for Detroit, as its rich history in the realms of modern design and techno music complement his industrial flair. About 240 guests (half of whom were Detroit locals) flocked to the opulent Michigan Theatre to attend the runway show, including cultural icons Mary J. Blige, Burna Boy, and Lil Kim. Detroit techno legend Moodyman scored the show, releasing 15 minutes of new music at the event.
The Salon 03 collection continues the momentum and progression of the Italian label as well as drawing inspiration from American sportswear and workwear. Lee utilized metal yarn when crafting the pieces, which allows the shape of the garment to be altered both before and during the wear. Traditional knits were used in the construction of tracksuits, merging the brand’s staples with the city’s futuristic minimalism. Four-pocket workwear jackets with ruched details on the sleeves were paired with matching trousers in an array of colors, including the label’s signature “Kelly green” hue.
Bottega Veneta has also launched a new retail space dubbed The Firehouse in Detroit to further its collaboration with the city’s bustling creative community. The space is located in an old fire station and features the work of local artists, designers, and curators that authentically represent the city’s inventive nature and cultural influences. This includes a record store furnished by Waajeed’s Underground Music Academy, a reading room by Asmaa Walton, furnishings by Donut Shop, and textiles by Substudio.
Lee rightfully celebrates and pays tribute to the deep history and culture of Detroit and its ingenious community through the Salon 03 collection and newly-opened retail space. Make sure to watch the full runway show below and view photos from the collection above.
