Bottega Veneta's Unique and Charming Celebration of the Lunar New Year!

Brands Celebrate the Lunar New Year!

POSTED BY LILY EGLETON

The Lunar New Year is the beginning of a calendar year whose months are moon cycles, based on the lunisolar calendar. It will take place on 22nd January this year. It is a celebration featured in the Chinese calendar of the East Asian cultural sphere, the Hindu-Buddhist calendars of South and Southeast Asia, the Islamic calendar and the Jewish calendar. The indigenous Nisga'a of Canada also celebrates it. Its history is rich and globally renowned. 2023 - a year of the Water Rabbit - has already been celebrated by a number of brands. This includes Louis Vuitton, featuring the red and brown Precious Rabbit LV Essential Scarf - the fashion house's iconic monogram combined with a playful embroidered leather bunny patch - Dior featuring bunny-inspired work by guest designer Eli Russell Linnetz; Fendi, focussing on Marc Jacobs' reinterpretation of the Fendi Roma logo in red and white, and Armani who has incorporated subtle rabbit icons into their casual pieces, such as joggers, sweatshirts and bomber jackets.

Unlike these brands, which have celebrated festivity and good luck through the traditional Lunar New Year colors of red and white, Bottega Veneta has gone for something far more unique. The Italian luxury fashion house based in Milan has released a short film to celebrate the event. The film, directed by Jess Jing Zhou, is titled Reunion in Mood. The characters commute home and allow the audience to witness a variety of Chinese landscapes. In addition, each character unites with their family, sparking feelings of warmth and coziness.

The moving trains - returning these commuters home with their families - remind us of the "craft of motion" vision that newly appointed creative director Matthieu Blazy has for the label. A real-life 'Bottega Green' logo-free installation in the shape of a moving train will travel through China for a month. This exciting concept only suggests that Bottega Veneta is in good creative hands. We cannot wait to see how this creativity may translate to their future designs and how they may similarly use technology to their advantage. It is interesting to see a development in the Bottega Veneta persona, and we cannot wait to see how this creativity may manifest.
