Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2025

WOW!

POSTED BY ANA BEATRIZ REITZ

When guests like demure icon Jools Lebron, actor Jacob Elordi, actress Julianne Moore, rapper A$AP Rocky, star Michelle Yeoh, Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif, and model Kendall Jenner arrived at Orobia 11 for Bottega Veneta’s show, they were confronted with unconventional front row chairs – animal bean bags inspired by 1968's Zanotta Sacco. Are they comfortable? Most likely – and made entirely of leather, to top. As a playful yet purposeful surprise, the fun wasn't cut – it's just grown, revealing all of Matthieu Blazy's humorous facets and perhaps a tip or two of what was about to come.

What graced the runway was, wow! Not only was the collection titled as such, but the clothes conveyed that feeling too. Power dressing was redefined. Workwear staples were given a cool twist – from bunny belts to crochet wallflowers wrapped in leather bags à la Blazy's way.

Extreme proportions that were tempting to see caught the eye at first, seen in ultra-loose designs that are commonly seen as regular or tight-fitting pieces. But rarely baggy. Then why go loose? Because all kids play grown-ups. They sneak into their parents' closets, look for the most adult-like pieces, and put them on as if it were real life, imagining who they will become one day. And our parents' closets look so grand in the eyes of such little beings. So there's no shortage of possibilities for the future.

When Bottega's kid opens Mommy and Daddy's closet, they find a world like no other. Several lives are on full display. There is the Patrick Bateman Wall Street type of guy with his business proper look and a killer tie, the Instagram princess with a tie-dye-esque summer perfect ensemble, men in suits holding their grocery bags back from work, the It Girl exuding refinement with a draped orange gown, the matchsticks gang who set the whole thing on fire, the classic Milanese woman in a sculpted white dress adorned with frog brooches carrying her quirky handbag, an elegant musician with his violin bag on his back, Barbie Gal in her spiky pink coat and the ladies who match their leather wigs to their dresses.

At some point, the desire for more adventures is such that the Bottega kid goes straight to the laundry basket and starts donning wrinkled clothes that retain its charm — ranging from baby pink suits, elegant black dresses, bunny tees with jeans, and a beige dress layered with a navy coat.

No matter what the garment, whether it is leather mania, wrinkled, pure refinement, or grungy, sensations are everywhere. We can all feel its textures, sounds, and smells. Because it's almost like our own childhood – perhaps that's the beauty of it.

While the creations feel very childlike from a certain perspective, Bottega Veneta is very serious. It's just that Matthieu Blazy's knack for finding the perfect balance between frivolity and rigor and conceptualism has always been great.

Thus, Bottega Veneta's mature status persists, only with a dash of humor and a precious life lesson: adulthood doesn't have to be boring. All we have to do is look back and remember what our past selves imagined our future to be like: wow!
