Awake NY and Jordan Brand's Iconic Collaboration
MJ's roots in Brooklyn shine.
Awake NY and Jordan Brand have finally dropped their collab collection, and it's a fire tribute to NYC's basketball and street culture. The Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship is the first sneaker they made together, and it's also a nod to MJ's roots in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where he was born before moving to North Carolina. The Air Ship is a rare piece of Jordan's sneaker history, just like his Brooklyn connection.
The collection also includes some dope apparel, like a wool-and-leather varsity jacket with chenille and snakeskin details, an acid-washed flannel shirt, a co-branded sweatshirt, sweatpants, T-shirt, shorts and hat. The lookbook features some of the Awake NY fam, like Ev Bravado of Murder Bravado and Ruba Abu-Nimah, the former creative director of Tiffany & Co., and was shot by Christopher Currence.
There's also a short film called Where I'm From that goes with the release. It's directed by Anthony Jamari Thomas and shows Fort Greene and its people, with cameos from Carmelo Anthony, DJ Clark Kent, Rowdy Rebel, Kitty Ca$h and Bucketfam Global, a youth sports group from Brooklyn.
Stay tuned for more info on how to cop the Awake NY x Jordan Brand Air Ship and the rest of the collection!
