The Unexpected Y2K Athleisure Comeback

I never thought I’d wear athleisure anywhere other than the gym, but with the resurgence of Y2K fashion all over my socials, I've grown very fond of yoga pants and capris for any occasion.

I’m all for comfortable clothes, but never at the expense of a cute outfit, so I love how this trending aesthetic merges the two. The flattering silhouettes and bold colors make this 2000s trend a welcome blast from the past, updated with a fresh, modern twist.

This trend feels like a natural progression from the ‘model off-duty’ aesthetic we’ve seen in recent years, with so many famous faces rocking this trend in paparazzi pics. My personal fashion fail-safe is that if Bella Hadid’s doing it, you should be too.

Especially with the Pilates craze all over TikTok right now, it’s trendy to take care of yourself and look good doing it, which is a philosophy I can definitely get behind! There’s nothing not to love about this aesthetic: it’s cute, comfortable, practical, and nostalgic. I wish my mom had kept some of her vibrant capris or patterned tank tops, as any kind of vintage athletic wear is really having its moment right now.

This aesthetic doesn't shy away from accessories either, which is completely unsurprising due to its early 2000s roots. Bangle stacks, chunky flip flops, and wide headbands have all been revived with this aesthetic, taking outfits from basic gym wear to looking cute and put together.

Whether I'm going on a coffee date, heading out for a walk, or relaxing at home, I love pairing yoga pants in every color - from fuchsia to turquoise - with a basic white tee. It’s my new go-to formula for a great, low-maintenance outfit. I'm excited to see how this trend develops - maybe a return of 80s nylon is on the horizon!
